Cabinet of curiosities - weird science
Handle marine plant and animal specimens and learn about underwater exploration innovations from every trophic level- the sunlight to the abyss.
Run your fingers over a taxidermy squid, feel the weight of a pearl divers' boot, see everyday objects crushed into miniature by the tremendous pressure of the deep sea or peer through the lens of pioneering underwater cameras.
Daily during the summer holidays and Sundays during school term.

Weaving Workshop
Join us for a unique weaving workshop with contemporary Indigenous artist Wanita Lowe. In this hands-on session, Wanita will share traditional weaving skills and cultural heritage, welcoming participants of all ages.
A proud Dunghutti woman raised on Wiradjuri land, Wanita’s art blends traditional storytelling with modern urban techniques, reflecting her Aboriginal heritage through various mediums, including ceramics, basket weaving, painting, drawing, and printing.
Stop by to watch Wanita's weaving demonstration or stay for the entire session to create your own small woven piece to take home.
No prior skills or experience are needed, and all materials will be provided!

Roving performances
Come face to face with a curious cast of characters as captivating performance artists engage in lively roving entertainment around the museum.
Enjoy encounters with larger than life deep sea divers, a majestic jellyfish stiltwalker, a bubbling submarine and a dancing lighthouse. Sing along to shanties, tap your toes to the beats of brass bands, get your own sailor -style temporary tattoo painted on while you wait to board a vessel. Spot synchronised swimmers and jovial jugglers, spectacular puppets and a whimsical whale in our rotating program of free daily performances.

Drop-in docos
Escape the heat this summer and enjoy free daily screenings of captivating documentaries exploring the wonders of nature, the ocean, and human innovation at the museum’s theatre.
Deep Sea Disco Days
Dress ups, character opportunities, disco and facepaint.
It’s time to shimmy like a seapig, jive like a jellyfish, grapevine like a gulper eel or boogie like a bioluminescent angler as you light up the deep-sea disco dance floor!
Take a trip to the midnight zone on Mondays in January.
Come in costume to enjoy our summer of deep-sea exhibitions, meet and enjoy photo ops with our real-life deep-sea mermaid and jellyfish-dj hosts, enjoy collaborative drawing activities, and get your face painted or your flippers tattooed with your favourite underwater creature designs.

Ocean health lab
The Seabin Ocean Health Lab is the first of its kind in the world, Seabin scientists analyse marine debris – from macroplastics to tiny nurdles, sucked from the sea by the 30 Seabins stationed around Sydney Harbour. Dive deep into the stories behind the data and learn about what we can do to turn the tide on marine pollution.
Open for tours 2- 25 January and weekends in term time
