baliny
An icon of Australian fishing, baliny (commonly known as the barramundi) is a large fish with a massive head that can take up almost a third of its 2 m length. Weighing in at 60 kg, baliny dominate many tropical riverways.
Throughout their lifetime baliny can travel long distances. They spawn under full moonlight in the wet season, and their young spend the next three to five years in freshwater billabongs and rivers, feeding on smaller fish, insects, crustaceans and even younger barramundi.
