Students can earn their pirate licence in this swashbuckling adventure!
In the pirate classroom, apprentice pirates will master pirate lingo, learn the ropes of life on the seas and dance a pirate jig.
The young buccaneers will follow a mysterious treasure map around the museum and wharves, solve cunning riddles and clues, and uncover the hidden treasure.
Led by experienced museum educators in full pirate costume, this is an unforgettable way for students to learn new vocabulary, skills and knowledge.
Students, parents and teachers are also encouraged to come dressed like pirates! Please ensure:
- Everyone wears flat, closed-toe shoes
- Students wear sun protection (e.g. hat)
- Costumes do not pose a tripping hazard or impede students’ vision
- Pirate accessories are not too sharp (e.g. swords or hooks).

- Free self-guided access to museum exhibitions and HMAS Vampire outside of the scheduled program times. If you wish to visit any other vessels, please include the details in your booking form.
- All groups have a 30-minute recess and safety induction on arrival.
- Please indicate in your booking enquiry if you would like to schedule a lunch break during your visit.
Additional information
This program involves climbing up and down companionways (small access ladders between decks), bending (to enter small spaces on the vessel) and walking along uneven surfaces (such as the wharves and gangways).
In the event of rain, the excursion will still go ahead with a wet-weather alternative in the museum galleries.
Cost
$225 per group of 15 students.
Free for teachers and supervising adults within the required supervision ratio.
Book with another education program on the same day for $300 per group of 15 students.
Discounts are available to schools with an ICSEA score of 800 or lower.
Accessibility
This program is conducted within the main museum building, along the wharves and on board one of the tall ships.
- There is ramp and lift access to all exhibition spaces within the main museum building.
- The museum’s tall ships are not wheelchair accessible.
- Alternative arrangements can be made for wheelchair users to experience the program from the wharf.
