This virtual site study asks Year 7 and 8 history students to become maritime archaeologists and solve a history mystery.

Students explore 3D models of shipwreck artefacts and answer scaffolded source analysis questions in a unique and engaging case study.  

Skills-focussed activities ask students to investigate primary sources to develop their skills in source analysis, historical empathy and communication.  

Information for teachers:

  • Activities can be completed as a whole class, by small groups or individually.  
  • Formative and summative assessment activities have been included to gauge students’ development of understanding about the role of archaeology.  
  • This unit of inquiry is entirely self-contained and all necessary contextual information is provided within the activities.

A Graphic Tale of Shipwreck, is an exhibition which tells the story of a shipwreck using real artefacts retrieved by our Maritime Archaeologists as well as stunning graphic novel illustrations and an immersive diving experience, created in partnership with virtual design experts and students in Germany.
